Poem: She’s Different Now

My past, I don’t live there anymore. My sins, I don’t live there anymore. My insecurities, I don’t live there anymore. My anger, I don’t live there anymore. My fears, I don’t live there anymore. That “not good enough” feeling, I don’t live there anymore. Caring about what others think of me, I don’t live there anymore.

As I emerge into the person God knew I was always supposed to be I just want you to know you won’t find me where you left me. The girl people used to take advantage of, she doesn’t live here anymore. The girl people bullied, she doesn’t live here anymore. The girl people would manipulate and use, she doesn’t live here anymore.

You won’t find me where you left me. You should have loved her when you had a chance. You should have appreciated her. After always putting everybody else before her, she finally woke up from her long nap. She’s not blind anymore. She doesn’t need y’all anymore. She doesn’t hate y’all. Jesus saved her when everybody left her.

Now you’ll have to watch her from afar. Watch as the caterpillar you guys once knew emerges into the butterfly. Yes she has forgiven every person who hurt her. But you won’t know her anymore. Yes her face is still the same but something in her has changed. She’s evolving so hard, the world will have to get to know her again.
