“Then the men of the city said to Elisha, “Please notice, the situation of this city is pleasant, as my Lord sees; but the water is bad, and the ground barren.” And he said, “Bring me a new bowl, and put salt in it.” So they brought it to him. Then he went out to the source of the water, and cast in the salt there, and said, “Thus says the Lord: ‘I have healed this water; from it there shall be no more death or barrenness.’ ”So the water remains healed to this day, according to the word of Elisha which he spoke.” (II Kings 2:19-22 NKJV)
As we see in this story Elisha threw salt at the source of the polluted water that caused death and bareness in the land in order to heal it. If we apply this to modern times the Lord represents Elisha, we are like the polluted water, and the Word (Gospel) is the salt that cleans.
- With all this being said in order for us to heal and become whole God needs to get to the root of our problem and not just the symptoms of it. It does not matter what it looks like God knows what is deep inside us all. Too many people want to put a band aid over things God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit want to heal, remove, or change. God wants to use you and make you new but He needs the vessels (us) to measure up to His standards and not our own. We can have old habits, mindsets, patterns, childhood trauma, etc that get in our way. These stumbling blocks could have developed because of outside or inside sources (family, the world, culture, friends, etc). Either way it goes we need to unlearn what holds us back to relearn the right things that will prosper us, purify us and make us righteous in Christ. When we do not get to the source of the issue the problem does not go away and temporary solutions just minimize the problem until there is no other choice but to confront it.
- Read and saturate your soul and Spirit with the Word (Bible) on a daily. The Word contains everything you need to survive the world and accomplish God’s will for your life. The Holy Spirit will convict us through the Word when necessary to lead us to repentance and transformation. Also notice how Elisha used a new bowl and the waters were also made new after it was healed. This is a reminder that God does new things and when God heals you this time walk in your newness and do not look back.
