What You Have Is More Than Enough (John 6:4-13)‼️

“Now the Passover, a feast of the Jews, was near. Then Jesus lifted up His eyes, and seeing a great multitude coming toward Him, He said to Philip, “Where shall we buy bread, that these may eat?” But this He said to test him, for He Himself knew what He would do. Philip answered Him, “Two hundred denarii worth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may have a little.” One of His disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, said to Him, “There is a lad here who has five barley loaves and two small fish, but what are they among so many?” Then Jesus said, “Make the people sit down.” Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand. And Jesus took the loaves, and when He had given thanks He distributed them to the disciples, and the disciples to those sitting down; and likewise of the fish, as much as they wanted. So when they were filled, He said to His disciples, “Gather up the fragments that remain, so that nothing is lost.” Therefore they gathered them up, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves which were left over by those who had eaten. ‭‭(John‬ ‭6‬:‭4:13 ‭NKJV‬‬)

In this story we see that a multitude of people followed Jesus and the problem was that the disciples did not know how they were going to feed five thousand people. Phillip automatically tried to find a solution involving money but that did not work. Later on we see in verse 8 that Andrew found a boy with five barley loaves and two small fish yet he did not think it was enough to feed the multitudes of people. However after reading the whole story we see Jesus did a miracle with the 5 loaves and two small fish that resulted in an overflow. In verse 12- 13 we see Jesus proved the disciples wrong because He told them to “Gather up the fragments that remain…” and after they gathered them up it resulted they had TWELVE baskets of food left over AFTER the five thousand ate.

  • With this being said what may seem small to you might be the very thing God uses to do a miracle. It does not necessarily have to be a miracle but God can use exactly what you have to bring about His plan for you. Use what God has given you and it will make room for you. Jesus is not looking for our doubts but our faith. With God nothing will be impossible and He is able to do exceedingly and abundantly above all that we may ask or think.
    • “A man’s gift makes room for him, And brings him before great men.” (Proverbs‬ ‭18‬:‭16‬ ‭NKJV‬‬)
    • “But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” (Matthew‬ ‭19‬:‭26‬ ‭NKJV‬‬)
    • “Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us,” (Ephesians‬ ‭3‬:‭20‬ ‭NKJV‬‬)
    • I’m also reminded of the story of Elisha and widow with the oil and vessels. The widow had her husband’s debt to pay and Elijah asked her what she had in her house. The widow told Elijah all she had was oil. Elijah proceeded to tell her to collect vessels from her neighbors then go to her house to fill them up with the oil she already had so she can sell them. To her surprise the oil filled up all the vessels in her possession and she was able to pay off the debt and still have some left over.
      • “A certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets cried out to Elisha, saying, “Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that your servant feared the Lord. And the creditor is coming to take my two sons to be his slaves.” So Elisha said to her, “What shall I do for you? Tell me, what do you have in the house?” And she said, “Your maidservant has nothing in the house but a jar of oil.” Then he said, “Go, borrow vessels from everywhere, from all your neighbors—empty vessels; do not gather just a few. And when you have come in, you shall shut the door behind you and your sons; then pour it into all those vessels, and set aside the full ones.” So she went from him and shut the door behind her and her sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured it out. Now it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said to her son, “Bring me another vessel.” And he said to her, “There is not another vessel.” So the oil ceased. Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, “Go, sell the oil and pay your debt; and you and your sons live on the rest.”” (II Kings‬ ‭4‬:‭1‬-‭7‬ ‭NKJV‬‬)
