22 “Now it happened, on a certain day, He got into a boat with His disciples. And He said to them, “Let us cross over to the other side of the lake.” And they launched out. 23 But as they sailed He fell asleep. And a windstorm came down on the lake, and they were filling with water, and were in jeopardy. 24 And they came to Him and awoke Him, saying, “Master, Master, we are perishing!” Then He arose and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water. And they ceased, and there was a calm. 25 But He said to them, “Where is your faith?” And they were afraid, and marveled, saying to one another, “Who can this be? For He commands even the winds and water, and they obey Him!” (Luke 8:22-25 NKJV)
In this story in the Bible we see that Jesus and the disciples got into a boat. Then verse 23 states “And a windstorm came down on the lake, and they were filling with water, and were in jeopardy”. The boat was filling with water and the disciples were panicking because verse 24 states the disciples came to Jesus saying “Master, Master, we are perishing”. However, in the midst of all this chaos we see that Jesus was sleeping.
- With this being said we see the peace Jesus had in the midst of the chaos and storm. Jesus had that peace that surpasses all understanding. He must have been in a deep sleep if he didn’t wake up to the water getting in the boat or the disciples panicking. We also see that in the storm the disciples knew who to call on and that was on Jesus. After the disciples called on Jesus in verse 24 it states “Then He arose and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water. And they ceased, and there was a calm”. This story shows us that in the midst of our storm we can have peace and calmness when we call on Jesus and fix our eyes on Him and Daddy God.
- Verse 25 states “But He said to them, “Where is your faith?” Jesus asked the disciples where is their faith in the middle of the storm. In the same way we can end up being like the disciples when we face a storm. Our first reaction or response might be to panic. To walk by sight and not by faith. Yet our first reaction or response should be to run to the only one who can make things better for us. To the one that can calm the storm. We need to not focus on the problem and focus on the problem solver. You don’t have to figure it out. Daddy God and Jesus are not asking you to do Their job. Instead They want us to let Them do Their job while we trust Them enough to know that in the end everything will work out for our good, and according to Daddy God’s will for our lives.
