. . . I am not my Skin . . .

All my life I have automatically been labeled, until I say “ I’m Dominican.” You should see their faces, you would have thought I said I won a million dollars by the way their faces lit up. Then, they would proceed to say “Oh we wouldn’t have imagined that.” Of course they wouldn’t have imagined it because they took one look at my skin color and made an assumption. Nobody would ever approach me until they learn I’m not just anyone. It always amazes me how ethnicity can change someone’s perspective on you. You’re not boring anymore now you’re labeled as “Foreign” or “Bad” just because you can speak Spanish. People that never spoke to you want to know your name or be your friend. All of a sudden, you are noticed in a world that only wants to dim your lights. Look at my skin it glistens under the sunlight. My color does not define who I am, it just adds shine to my life. I am an Afro-Latina (A black person who comes from one of the Latin American countries).

Don’t get me wrong, I love my heritage. Dominicans have flavor in everything they do. You can taste it in our food and hear it in our music. My point is that there is a lot of favoritism when it comes to certain races. The race that gets disrespected and belittled the most is the African American race. Their women are being degraded and their men are being killed. White cops are using their weapons to kill black lives and it’s like nobody even cares. Instead of the world fighting for black lives, ya’ll need to be praying for black lives. Fighting is not changing anything so why don’t we leave it to God. He is the almighty ruler that can change anything bad into good. And before you say “Well where is God when you need him?” He’s sitting on His throne waiting for you to pray in Jesus name for whatever you need. Jesus said: You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father. (John 13:14) Don’t think because you pray once or twice he’ll automatically grant you what you want. Our God performs miracles that you can only experience through believing in Him. Yet, if you’re an unbeliever you might witness some miracles because he wants to show you His magnificent power.

“There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” (Galatians 3:28) Meaning we were all created equal and to God we are all the same. So why do we live in a generation where people would rather be a colorist and a racist? Easy… we are living in hell right now. This is the devils world and we have to do everything in our power to make it to heaven. Satan will not stop until he has steered you away from God. My Father is the savior of this nation and can defeat satan and his army. “The earth is the Lords’ and everything in it.” (Psalm 24:1) We have to come together and love each other how God loves us. Our steps have to be ordered by the Lord if we want to make a change. We are all his children and God never turns his back on us. He forgives us, listens to us, and loves us unconditionally. Hold on to him real close, the world is only going to get worse as generations pass. Humanity as we know it is malicious and we can not make decisions based on our heart/emotions. Trust God and let him reign over your life.
