“Sometimes it takes a painful experience to make us change our ways.” (Proverbs 20:30 GNT)
The lessons of life either break you or make you into who God knows you can be. When we are doing something wrong God will warn us in the simplest ways at first. Either you will feel convicted, get signs or get warned through people. However, when we overpass all those warnings that is when things get real personal. If we can’t change our ways by just listening to our Father the next step He takes just might be something that could have been avoided. Pain is inevitable but necessary for growth. The most uncomfortable situations might be the ones that lead you to beautiful places. When things seem to be falling apart they might actually be falling into place. Discouragement will always come but do not give up. In the moment you might not know the why but just keep on moving because one it’s all done God will reveal it all to you.
For example: I remember growing up my mom and other people would warn me about my attitude. I refused to listen to anybody until I met Jesus. I realized the problems my attitude can cause. Most of my pain came from situations where I let my pride or emotions get in the way. Therefore, I had to lose some things in order to humble my attitude and emotions. God gave me a blessing and because I didn’t take care of it properly, He striped me of it. “He said, “I was born with nothing, and I will die with nothing. The Lord gave, and now he has taken away. May his name be praised!” (Job 1:21 GNT) We can’t change what happens to us but we do decide how to react and what choice to make. Can you still praise the Lord when He is teaching you a lesson? Can you perceive He is doing a new thing? Or instead, will you ask yourself “Why Me?”
The pain I experienced in the pruning process helped me open my eyes and realize the real lies the enemy has been feeding my mind. My mind was full of clusters and of belief systems that were not of my Father. I could have chosen to not work on my attitude but I would only be destroying myself. “If you refuse to learn, you are hurting yourself. If you accept correction, you will become wiser.” (Proverbs 15:32 GNT) We fail to realize God and Jesus remain the same forever but the choices we make determine our path. However, once I got to the source of the problem I was able to work on the solution. God has blessings for us but we can’t receive them when our heart doesn’t match up with His. All in all, my point is when God speaks to you listen because the next action He will take will hurt more than the first correction.
I know some people experience pain and choose to wallow in it instead of overcoming it. Pain makes some people more evil. Pain makes others turn to drugs and alcohol because they try to fill their voids with a temporary relief. However, Jesus is the only one that can turn your pain into joy. Pain hurts but you should use it as a stepping stone to get to the next level. Learn the lesson because everything is a learning experience and apply it to your life. God would not put you through anything you can’t handle. “Every test that you have experienced is the kind that normally comes to people. But God keeps his promise, and he will not allow you to be tested beyond your power to remain firm; at the time you are put to the test, he will give you the strength to endure it, and so provide you with a way out.” (1 Corinthians 10:13 GNT)
